Pseudonymity¶
Short definition¶
Use an identity different from your civil identity. It can still be linked to you.
Concrete example¶
Alice uses a new alias but reuses her public photo: Bob can make the connection.
What it protects¶
Identity separation from a specific observer, with suitable identifiers and behaviour.
What it does not protect¶
Does not make registration number, IP, purchases, voice or habits invisible.
Why it matters¶
Hiding a number from the contact is not hiding it from the provider.
Example messenger behaviour¶
Signal can hide the number from the peer after configuration; the service still requires it.
Technical details
A stable pseudonym is linkable. Define the observer and linkage channels separately.
