Anonymity

Short definition

A defined adversary cannot reasonably distinguish you within the relevant set of users.

Concrete example

A phone-free account can still be identifiable by IP or an identity-linked payment.

What it protects

Difficulty of attribution against the adversary and scenario actually studied.

What it does not protect

Not an absolute app property; not a remedy for seizure or spyware.

Why it matters

Asking “anonymous from whom?” avoids a false promise.

Technical details

The anonymity set, adversary capabilities and auxiliary information matter.
